THE HOLLY AND THE IVY

  AWAY IN A MANGER

The holly and the ivy,   Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
When they are both full grown,   The little Lord Jesus
Of all the trees that are in the wood,   laid down his sweet head
the holly bears the crown.   The stars in the bright sky
looked down where he lay,
Chorus ;       The rising of the sun The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
 And the running of the deer,
 The playing of the merry organ,
 Sweet singing in the choir The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
 The holly bears a blossom,    But little Lord Jesus,
As white as the lily flower,   no crying he makes.
 And mary bore sweet Jesus Christ   I love thee, Lord Jesus,
 To be our sweet Saviour ;    look down from the sky,
  Chorus ;     And stay by my side till morning is nigh.

The holly bears a berry,

As red as any blood,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ   Be near me. Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay
To do poor sinners good :   Close by me forever,

Chorus ;

    and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children
The holly bears a prickle,   in thy tender care,
as sharp as any thorn,   And fit us for heaven
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, to live with thee there.
On Christmas Day in the morn ;
Chorus ;
The holly bears a bark
As bitter as any gall,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ
For to redeem us all ;
Chorus ;

The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all the trees that are in the wood,
The holly bears the crown ;
Chorus ;

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS

We wish you a merry Christmas,

We wish you a merry Christmas,

We wish you a merry Christmas,

And a happy New Year.

            Good tidings we bring
             To you and your kin,
   O, LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM    We wish you a merry Christmas
            And a happy New Year
   O, little town of Bethlehem,
   How still we see thee lie !   Now bring us some figgy pudding,
  Above thy deep and dreamless sleep   Now bring us some figgy pudding,
   The silent starts go by.   Now bring us some figgy pudding,
   Yet in thy dark streets shineth       And bring some out here.
   The everlasting light   Chorus ;
   The hopes and fears of all the years
   Are met in thee tonight.

For we all like figgy pudding,

For we all like figgy pudding,

  O morning starts together,

For we all like figgy pudding,

  Proclaim he holy birth

So bring some out here.

  And praises sing to God the King,    Chorus ;
  And peace to men on earth,
  For Christ is born of Mary,   And we won't go until we've had some,

And gathered all above,

  And we won't go until we've had some,
  While mortals sleep, the angels keep      And we won't go until we've had some,

Their watch of wondering love.

   So bring some out here.

Chorus ;

How silently, how silently,

  The wondrous gift is given !
   So God imparts to human hearts
  the blessings of his heaven.

 No ear may hear his coming ;

But in this worlds of sin,

Where meek souls will rceive him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
O holy Child of Bethlehem,
Decend to us, we pray ;
Cast out our sin, and enter in :
Be born is us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell :
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel.

      THE FIRST NOEL

      The first Noel the Angel did say,
      Was to certain poor shepherds in the fields as they lay ;
      In the fields where they lay keeping their sheep
      On a cold winter's night was so deep :
      Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel

      They looked up and saw a star,
      Shining in the east, beyond them far,
      And to the earth it gave grat light,
      And so it continued both day and night ;
       Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel

This star drew night to the north-west,
      O'er Bethlehem it took it's rest,
      And there it did both stop and stay,
      Right over the place where Jesus lay ;
       Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel

      Then entered in those Wise Men three,
Full reverently upon their knee,
      And offered there in his presence,
      Their gold and myrrh, and frankincense;
       Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel
